When I read this story, I immediately thought that LePage is anti-thesis to what the U.S Constitution says about the American people's interests. Clearly, LePage does not represent promotion of the general welfare of Americans!

Health care is basic to the general welfare of Americans. Congress and the President determined, per Congress' power granted in Article I Section 8 of the Constitution, that the Affordable Care Act is a provision in American law that does provide for the general welfare of the people, and LePage calls the IRS "Gestapo" when the IRS had nothing to do with the passage of the law. When he says the IRS are the "Gestapo", he implies the American "Gestapo" are the Congress of the United States, the President, and the United States Supreme Court that passed and upheld the law.

I cannot believe the voters of Maine elected this asshole! Maine's voters have to be dumb fucks, ones that I have no respect for.

The Constitution of the United States
    PREAMBLE

We, the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

    ARTICLE I
    Section 8. Powers of Congress
The Congress shall have the power

    1. to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defence and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, imposts and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States:

So it seems LePage's "Gestapo" can only withhold the ACA "tax" penalty from taxpayers due refunds who do not buy health insurance since there are no civil or criminal penalties for failing to buy health insurance.

Thus, the LePage comparison of the IRS "Gestapo" to the Nazi Gestapo is appalling.

The tax man cometh to police you on health care

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court's decision to uphold most of President Barack Obama's health care law will come home to roost for most taxpayers in about 2½ years, when they'll have to start providing proof on their tax returns that they have health insurance.

That scenario puts the Internal Revenue Service at the center of the debate, renewing questions about whether the agency is capable of policing the health care decisions of millions of people in the United States while also collecting the taxes needed to run the federal government.

Under the law, the IRS will provide tax breaks and incentives to help pay for health insurance and impose penalties on some people who don't buy coverage and on some businesses that don't offer it to employees.

The penalty will be fully phased in by 2016, when it will be $695 for each uninsured adult or 2.5 percent of family income, whichever is greater, up to $12,500. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that 4 million people will pay the penalty that year.

The law, however, severely limits the ability of the IRS to collect the penalties. There are no civil or criminal penalties for refusing to pay it, and the IRS cannot seize bank accounts or dock wages to collect it. No interest accumulates for unpaid penalties.

So how can the IRS enforce the mandate? Scary letters and threats to withhold tax refunds.

The law allows the IRS to withhold tax refunds to collect the penalty, and most filers get refunds. This year, 77 percent of the 135 million individual income tax returns processed by the IRS qualified for a refund. The average refund: $2,707.

Paul LePage 'Gestapo' Comment: Maine Governor Backs Away From Radio Address Remarks

By DAVID SHARP 07/09/12 03:49 PM ET

PORTLAND, Maine -- Maine Gov. Paul LePage is backing away from a recent comment in which he referred to the Internal Revenue Service as "the new Gestapo."

The Republican governor made the remark in his weekend radio address, criticizing the Supreme Court ruling that upheld the federal health care law. He said it gives Americans no choice but to buy health insurance or "pay the new Gestapo – the IRS."

But LePage said Monday his use of the word "clouded" his message, and he didn't intend to insult anyone

Derrek Shulman of the Anti-Defamation League says comparisons to the Nazi police force have no place in politics or anywhere else.
Since taking office last year, LePage has stirred outrage with remarks about labor unions, state government middle managers and the president, among others.
