I'm type II diabetic - my cardiologist put me on the Atkins diet in early February...

My morning glucose level had been between 250 to nearly 400 and my baseline number was near 10. After LESS THAN A WEEK of Atkins, my blodd glucose was in the normal range in the morning. I stopped my insulin after 10 days, never went back. My baseline is now 7, and even if I eat "bad" stuff, my glucose level comes down normally within a short time.
I am back on a slightly more strict Atkinsfor a month or so after slacking off - I want to lose more weight, and it seems to be working fine again. I went from a 38" waist to under 36" and I'm hoping to get to 34" soon.

I am not selling anything, nor prescribing - I just wanted to tell others what worked so well for me.

A healthy diet and just a little exercise can do wonders!!!
I'm always amazed at my patients who won't (for whatever reason) adopt a healthier lifestyle and instead take a cocktail of medication. I know they must feel like crap most of the time...
But it's a lifestyle change. It's not as simple as a "diet"... It requires one continue living in a healthy way from now on.
Congratulations!!! Keep up the good work.

A couple of years ago, a Republican committee staff director told me candidly (and proudly) what the method was to all this obstruction and disruption. Should Republicans succeed in obstructing the Senate from doing its job, it would further lower Congress’s generic favorability rating among the American people. By sabotaging the reputation of an institution of government, the party that is programmatically against government would come out the relative winner.

A walk in the morning does wonders both physically and psychologically. Just getting out into the sun for 20 minutes always improves my mood.

    I'm also Type 2.

    A1c tests are between 5.7 and 6.0
Blood sugar averages 107 (2 tests per day)
Metformin 2000 per day at dinner.
No booze, no candy, no pasta, no donuts, no cake, no pasta, no orange juice..
I try to minimize carbohydrate intake.
Vegetables are free, fruits are rationed (maybe 5 or 6 strawberries a day)
All the watermelon I care to eat.

I was hospitalized three years ago with Aic of 10, 800 blood sugar. I weighed 245. I spent 3 days in the hospital. 3 months after I was released I was down to 195 pounds, and 6.0 A1c. I developed a great diet of between 1,200 and 1,500 calories per day.

    I now average about 210 pounds (I'm 5-10).

In the last year, I've been hypoglycemic three times. I use the occasion to eat a chocolate candy bar or drink orange juice.

Thank you all for the responses - I am experimenting right now, and find that the closer I stick to the high protein low carb diet, the better I am.

And avoid processed grains. It makes a difference... No white bread or any of that...
    Good luck!

Click on the check boxes preceding the weights to be reported. If you select 100 grams, then standard error and number of data points will also be displayed. You may select up to 5 weights. Nutrient values can be calculated for any desired gram weight by clicking on the amount field for the weight to be reported and entering a decimal multiplier to calculate the desired weight. Then click on the Submit button. Click here to enter a new query.

For example: if the gram weight is 100 and you would like a report of the nutrient values for 75 grams, simply enter .75 in the amount field for 100 grams. For help with the decimal values for some common fractions click here for tips on Fractions.

Since we got our new dog-who is young and has lots of energy-we take him for long walks every day, and this benefits ALL of us.
