Clint Eastwood says America is becoming more 'juvenile'

    BY Samuel Goldsmith
    DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

    Tuesday, November 17th 2009, 11:29 AM

Clint Eastwood is better known for his fists than his fashion sense, but that didn't stop GQ magazine from naming him a man of the year.

Eastwood joins Barack Obama, Tom Brady, the three stars of "The Hangover" and "Star Trek" actor Chris Pine on five special covers for the December issue (www.gq.com), which hits newsstands Tuesday.

Eastwood talks politics, love, religion, diet and women in a wide-ranging interview with deputy editor Michael Hainey, who calls the 79-year-old the "patron saint of late bloomers."

Eastwood gained fame for his acting in the spaghetti Westerns of the 1960s, but won his first Oscar (for directing) for "Unforgiven" at age 62.

His new movie, "Invictus," is the true story of Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman) and the mostly white South African rugby team that helped usher the country out of apartheid.

"The world needs this kind of story nowadays," Eastwood said. "It's just...everybody's so screwed up. It seems like our country's in kind of a morbid mood, because of the recession or whatever."

We're "becoming more juvenile as a nation," he said. "The guys who won World War II and that whole generation have disappeared, and now we have a bunch of teenage twits."

Another problem is people get more outraged by people who defend themselves and not the people who started the attack in the first place!! They honest to God that if a person sits there and takes it then the world will be at peace!!

    On edit:

I think the WWII generation are very overrated!

    I don't.

My father in law flew 128 missions over the south Pacific out of New Guinea...between the ages of 19 and 21. I have a 17 year old son whom I adore...but I can't imagine him doing that in a single prop plane with one hand on the gun...Howie is a hero...so was my Dad. WWII was the last war worth fighting and those kids were badass! There hasn't been a war in 2 generations worth fighting and dying for.

As for Clint....he's a movie star, and a man who abused his lady for years. If that makes him Badass....it's only because some twits wrote it.

Not only that but I think Eastwood is a Repuke himself. Pretty sure of it.

Actually he got fedup with the Republicans and is now a (small L) libertarian. He told the Republican's ass off and left. I don't think, though, he is a member but he identifies himself as one.

    http://www.theadvocates.org/celebrit...-eastwood.html

He explicitly went on the record as a libertarian in a March 1997 Playboy interview, when he was asked: "How would you characterize yourself politically?" Eastwood replied: "Libertarian... Everyone leaves everyone else alone."

I didn't mean to sound so harsh. My father enlisted in the Army in WWII. But some of the things are that they were in the right place at the right time. Believe me, many people in our generation would have done the same things.

    BTW, I honor your father!

That's right about his relationship with this woman! I forgot about that!

The WWII generation fucked this country. They got everything set up for them and their retirement and piss on everyone else. They accuse Gen X of being the "me" generation? Who do you think they learned that from?

My father and his three brothers were all fighting in WW2. Can you imagine what a sacrafice that was. My grandmother had four sons in the war all at once. It was so unusual that articles were written on them. You don't hear about that kind of bravery anymore.

The middle class built this country....they went to war, came home and went to work. I don't think they planned on their retirements being stolen, I think they thought it would be perpetuated generation to generation...that's how it was set up. Just because we got fucked out of our retirements doesn't mean it's their faults! We need to be more vigilant, more vocal and organize stronger unions.
They didn't set the bankers and the thieves lose on us, we did.

Re: Badass of the Year ~ GQ

Not only that, but the veterans of WWII supported FDR and Truman as much as they could, even after the war.
Then somehow Eisenhower got into office, and the entire country swung like a pendulum to the right and the GOP became the majority in both Houses. Then Congress passed a bunch of bunko bills and that is why until 2000, this country never let the Republicans in control of both the White House and Congress again.

Eisenhower was sick a lot during his 2nd term and he spent a lot of that time in the hospital so he didn't accomplish much at all, while Nixon was sitting in the wings hoping Ike would drop dead so he could take over and become the President.

But, JFK stopped Nixon in his tracks by taking the White House back in 1960 and Democrats took back control of Congress after almost 8 years of the GOP totally controlling our government.

JFK was wildly popular with WWII veterans because he was a hero of WWII while he was commander of PT Boat-109.
