VERY COOL!!!!
When former teacher Barbara Morgan blasts into space this summer, she will be thinking about another educator: Christa McAuliffe.
Morgan was McAuliffe's understudy for the 1986 space shuttle Challenger mission that exploded shortly after launch, killing seven astronauts.
But more than two decades later, Morgan is no longer a backup crew member. She is ready to enter space in June as a full-fledged member of NASA's astronaut corps.
Morgan, 55, discussed the upcoming mission with reporters Friday and said the Challenger disaster did not deter her ambitions.
"You weigh the risks," she said. "To me, there's nothing more important to all of us than our kids and their future. We need to find out what went wrong, what we did wrong, try to fix it the best we can and move on."
