my definition of a stat arrest: arresting someone for spiting gum
on a sidewalk. drinking soda on a train. car window tints. etc...
see you get bs arrests like that cause in a city like nyc. cops earn their
check on overtime. the mayor controls bullshit arrests (stat arrests) by
way of the monthly overtime cap. plus by confining the bullshit to poor
neighborhoods. add *accommodating judges & you complete the trinity.
*judges willing to rubberstamp anything no matter how eyerolling the bs arrest.
the bronx has such judges. recently the nyt reported nypd arrests are
up by 20% ... here's how: the average bronx daily arrest was like 500.
its now 1,000 bronx arrests a day. nyt doesnt tell you that story.
why the spike in arrests? the mayor took the overtime cap off. for a cop
all residents in poor neighborhoods just became walking dollar bills. bronx
has a lot of poor neighborhoods. arrests in the bronx double overnight.
why just poor neighborhoods cant cops make bs arrests anywhere? no.
i live in a neighborhood where half the bullshit i do can get me arrested
daily. drinking in front of the bar tinted car windows. but since i do not
live in a poor hood, cops cant cash me in. those are the rules.
cops dont control the game, the mayor does. at least in my city.
keep a cop hungry and tell him go hunt the poor to eat. thats what
he will do. is it the cop's fault? no. so he sits in his squad car in the
poor bronx just waiting to even see a jay walker, overtime arrest.
while a cop is off the street booking a jay walker. what do
you think the rapist does? waits till the cop gets back????
stat arrests dont make a city safer. fyi when bloomberg was running on
his stat record of "low crime" to get re-elected. the city hospitals were
reporting that medical treatment for assaults victims was up. stat book
tells the fake story. the hospital book tells the real story.
now that arrested jay walker, who's he? usually a poor working stiff.
why? cause the real criminals avoid cops. one friend joked with me one
time that its always the gangsta with the glock who pays his train fare.
why? the last thing stick-up kids want is to attract avoidable attention.
what happens to a blue collar working stiff who finds himself cuffed &
jailed for the next 40 or more hours waiting for an arraignment judge?
well he prays his job is still there. he prays his boss understands how
much bullshit the arrest was. thing is, many small businesses need to
have insurance they have to pay. their insurance goes up for having
employees with any arrest record. so what do you think happens....
if he's lucky he keeps his job. employer takes the insurance bite. but if he
wants to move on to a bigger paying job. he's stuck with an arrest record
for the rest of his days. which makes him hard to hire.
stat arrests tend to have that kinda negative impact on employment. it
decreases legal employment in poor neighborhoods, and increases illegal
employment (drug dealing/prostitution/theft.)
