The Republicans tell us that throwing more money at education and social programs for people with real needs won't help. These same people want us to believe throwing 700 BILLION dollars at their buddies on Wall Street somehow WILL help them.
Who do you think Congress represents, Main Street or Wall Street?
If every man, woman, and child in America got the full $600 economic stimulus, the total bill would be $180 billion. Wall Street wants $700 billion ($850 billion in the Senate package according to CNN.)
Feeling warm and fuzzy yet?
Consider this. If you stacked 700 billion dollar bills, the stack would be 40,700 miles high, roughly one sixth of the way to the moon.
Perspective: The satellite that brings you satellite TV orbits the Earth at roughly 23,000 miles.
If you laid the bills end-to-end, for the $850 billion proposed in the Senate bill, it would stretch over 87 million miles, roughly 94 percent of the way to the sun!! It would wrap around the Earth nearly 3500 times.
A beam of light, by the way, would take 7 minutes and 48 seconds to travel that distance.
