Before he was mentioned as a possible Senate successor to Barack Obama, before he helped lead the Democrats back to power in the House, before he was even elected to his first term as the congressman from the North Side of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel was telling friends that he had one goal in life: to become the first Jewish speaker of the House.
But the No. 4 man in the House Democratic leadership has become a victim of his own success. As chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Emanuel helped lead the Democrats back to the majority in 2006. That victory put the speaker’s gavel in the hands of Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) ([Only registered and activated users can see links]), and she’s not likely to give it up any time soon.

she’s not likely to give it up any time soon. Wanna bet?

Sooner the better. Pelosi has been a huge disappointment.

Hell, by these standards, I helped lead the Democrats back to power in the House. It's just as easy to demonstrate, after all. Sure, I don't have his history as a politician, but I consider that a plus.
I never gave Rahm Emanuel a lick of credit for Democratic resurgence. In fact, I give most of the credit to raw Republican corruption, and a heavy share to Howard Dean for mainstreaming the internet campaign. Watch that corporatist like a hawk, peeps. Don't trust that one. He's DLC, right?
GymGeekAus for Speaker of the House!
Kynd Culture for Vice President!

Are you challenging my wisdom, as Speaker of the House and thus the one in charge of the pursestrings?
Gymgeekism better get its grant, that's all I've got to say!

For Rahm, the US Senate might be the path of least resistance.
