While campaigning in Pennsylvania today, Hillary Clinton made the claim that she was an integral part of her husband's administration. Saying "I was there when that phone rang at 3 AM", Hillary called for a renewal and expansion of the 1994 assault weapons ban, claiming it saved countless lives.
Hillary also wants to explore the use of all of the federal government's computer databases, that were expanded greatly during the Bush administration via the Patriot Act, to enforce gun laws on gun owners who want to buy new guys. Hillary also reiterated her position of requiring even more stringent background checks than those that are required today for new gun owners.

Jesus. The thing that really gets me is she wants to use the Federal Databases to keep track of the information! BTW, got link?

Well, I do hope that the word gets around in Pennsylvania. Barack could use those delegates.
Singling out "assault weapons" is kind of popintless. The term is not even used correctly. It is derived from the German Sturmgewehr, which was a selective fire weapon that could be fired in semi-automatic or full auto.
There are already hundreds of semi-auto weapons in private hands now, and damned rarely is one used in a crime.
Handguns are generally the weapon of choice for most criminals. And rarely does a person who holds a concealed carry license use a gun in a violent crime. It is an answer to a question that need not have been asked.
The only reasonable measure that I can see as a quick fix on the sale of guns to dangerous persons is to broaden concealed carry to all states on the same basis as Texas. Then any backgrou8nd check would just involve calling in to see whether the buyer has any warrants out. It would cut paperwork tremendously and reduce the number of guns bought on impulse without a cooling off period when someone wants revenge for some slight.

No, I didn't get the link. This came off a gun forum where a guy from Pennsylvania said he heard Hillary's speech today.
He said the radio ads that Hillary is playing up there are all touting her experience with national security and her strong positions on keeping America safe from terrorists. He said Hillary's campaign speech focused on what she thought were her strong points concerning security issues, but he said it appeared she was using fear to motivate people to vote for her.
Another page out of Rove's playbook.

The term as applied by the Assault Weapons Ban of 1994 is a legal term that was defined by the ATF.
It's a real term, whether you recoginize it as being used correctly or not.
Seven (7) states have state bans on assault weapons on their books already. California, Connecticut, and New York are some of the few states that already ban assault weapons.
I don't know if Obama supports the renewal of the AWB or not.
McCain was a co-author of the original 1994 AWB, but I don't think he supports it being renewed. But, who knows, McCain has taken so many positions on so many different issues, it's hard to tell what he thinks anymore. He used to be against waterboarding before he was the GOP's nominee. Now, all of a sudden, he's for it.
