Some dumbass got this opinion piece published in out local paper and I'd like to respond to it.

Can you count the errors?

I've tried but can't get beyond the first paragraph without feeling like laughing/pukeing.

Republicans ousted representatives Gingrich and Livingston after both had extra-marital affairs. Republicans dumped Senator Packwood when he sexually harassed women in his office. Republicans forced Senator Foley to resign after he sent sexual explicit e-mails to Senate pages. Republicans don't tolerate sexual misconduct and most involved don't survive politically.

Democrats, on the other hand, fail the smell test. Democrats honor and revere their icon 'Cigar Willy' after he had sex with a young intern, stained her dress, and lied to a Federal Judge. Democrats praised and re-elected representative Barney Franks after he admitted to sex with a male prostitute, hired and allowed him to run a male prostitute ring out of his apartment. Democrats censored Jerry Studds then supported his re-election after Studds, unlike Foley, actually had sex with a teenage male page. Democrats also united to get mayor Barry re-elected after being taped with drugs and a prostitute, then stood behind a wet Senator Kennedy. Democrats surrounding the wagons in support of their sexual deviants has become, out of necessity, commonplace.

Does anyone else see the irony in Democrat attempts to convince America they've taken the high ground here. Who in Hades do these deceitful hypocrites think they're kidding?

1) Are those really all of the Republican sex scandals out there? I think not...

2) While it's true that all of the cited Republicans ended their political careers on their scandals, each one of the cited Democrats was reelected time and again by his constituants. It wasn't Democrats who reelected them but American voters who reelected Democratic candidates. It's what's known as Democracy.

Bill Clinton, of course is the exception here. He could not run for reelection. But it should be noted that his approval rating upon his impeachment was at an all-time high of 73%.

3) As for Barney Franks...

After an investigation, the House Ethics Committee found no evidence that Frank had known of or been involved in the alleged illegal activity.

4) What does the "wet Senator Kennedy" remark mean? If he's referring to Chappaquidick, the author might want to look into the beloved Laura Bush's past.

What is there to respond to?

The entire letter is rooted in the assumption that he knows God's mind when it comes to sexual morality. It's an axiom, and so you can't disprove it. You can only present your own axioms and let the people compare (ignoring the fact that it's heresy at its root....).

Whose morality are we going to impose upon the rest of the country?

Why this guy thinks he should be so interested in everyone else's bedroom activities, well it just makes one reflect on that other old axiom, "methinks the lady doth protest too much." Perhaps when people put their opinions on these kinds of topics, they should open their lives to others so we can ensure that there is no hypocrisy going on. And so we can see if those are the kinds of lives the rest of us want to live.

Stop with the passing of laws and judgements when it comes to consenting adults, and create environments where people are free to be who they are, sins and all. It's so friggin obvious, isn't it?

By the way, Gingrich is still a powerful figure in American politics. Franks and Stubbs never said one thing to do another.
