Okay, this is just a copy and paste of one of my old threads from the RLC, but since we need some art and photography in the art and photography form (I'll get to the art later), I figured "wot the heck". I can't be accused of plagurizing myself, and I just love these photo essays, here goes...

This was at the end of April of this year. It was a beautiful warm spring morning, so what did I do? I took a walk around the local nature reserve taking a bunch of moody black and white photos (hey it worked for Ansel Adams).
These are just various things of interest I found along the way. One of my best friends and I used to take walks around here all the time before she moved away, so the place has always been special to me even if there are some mysterious corners here and there. I took about twenty pictures in all, only half of came out, but I think these are good.
First up, an interesting wood formation. This was the first pic I took, and the picture that made me decide to go black and white...

The road less traveled...it looks desolate, but actually, there was a family and a dog just at the bottom of the hill feeding geese...

A fire hydrant in the middle of nowhere...

I found this rusty old fire extinguisher besides the rail road tracks...why it was there, I have no clue...

A little further down the path, on the other side of the railroad tracks is this old abandoned mill house. I've actually had dreams about this place, pretty weird dreams too...

Another view of the house showing some of the overgrowth...

I went inside to get this picture...

There's really not much to see inside, except some rusty old machinery, but I did find this nice painting on the wall of a pretty little plant...

More to come...

A few more...

Directly across the street from the old millhouse in the blank sign at the entrance of a shorter, more hidden path...

The path lead to a cemetery. There used to be a mental institution nearby, and this is where the buried all the inmates. It's sort of become the local place where teenagers dare each other to spend the night. Really creepy...

It's actually kind of sad in a way since none of the graves are actually marked, they're white plastic pipes with numbers on them...

It's hard to see in this picture, but there is a board behind a crucifix at the head of the cemetery that has the names of all the inmates buried there, but there's still no way of telling who's buried where...

One of me, This is the only one I did any real cropping on, to make the background look more vast.

And one last look. Me inside the old millhouse...

Well, that's about it. I hope you enjoyed looking at them as much as I enjoyed taking them...:)

Thanks. You are too Kynd :). I don't have anymore from this particular series, but I have plenty more where this came from. Maybe I'll post my B/W factories series later this afternoon when I have time.

Thanks again.:happy0122[1]:

That's one of my faves too. Almost like an ironic Adams picture. Adams would never take a picture of a fire hydrant tho. LOL. :)

Thanks CG. These were nothing really, since these were digital, they're easy to manipulate. I have some old black and white prints I did back in college using nothing more than old fashioned "flash and burn" darkroom techniques, that I'll post shortly (I just need to step out for a few minutes...).:happy0122[1]:

If you like black & white photography, look at the work of Ansel Adams. In my opinion, the preeminent master of the medium.

By the way...Very nice work, Longgrain!

Thanks Dan and fire lock (and everyone else). Here are a few more as promised. These actual prints done way back in the days before digial, using old fashioned darkroom techinques. Mainly just some old factories around town, but I managed to find some interesting shapes and patterns.

I really love your black & whites. I have a couple Ansel Adams type pics I took in the woods behind my house that look good.

But, I stupidly left the date & time stamp on and it kinda ruins the pics.

Nice work on those.
