No matter how you slice or dice this one, this amendment is the same deal that Lieberman headed up for the Iraq debacle. The door now officially opens to war with Iran.

Lieberman-Kyl Amendment Seeks To Escalate Possibility Of Military Action Against Iran

Today, the Senate is expected to vote on an “extremely threatening” amendment to the Defense Authorization Bill introduced by Sens. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and Jon Kyl (R-AZ). The “sense of the Senate” amendment could “lead to a tit-for-tat escalation resulting in military confrontation between the US and Iran.”

The legislation accuses Iran of fighting “a proxy war against the Iraqi state and coalition forces in Iraq” and threatens to “combat, contain and [stop]” Iran. The right wing has quickly latched onto the amendment, claiming it “unflinchingly…calls on America to win” against Iran.

In reality, the amendment is a clear call for military action against alleged Iranian agents inside Iraq. From the text of the legislation:

Here's the head counts who voted yes or no. Notice Obama didn't want to go on record. I know how he would have voted. He didn't want that to show since he brags about not supporting the Iraq fiasco. McCain probably couldn't find his way to the Senate to vote today. He knew it would pass with flying red color anyways!

Well, there you have it fellow progressives. Most in our own political party are part of the war making machine. I was hoping it wasn't true, but by today's vote in conjuction with the Dems outrage over the MoveOn ad, I am now convinced!

There are no excuses left.

Byrd was just reelected in this past election. He is so old not that he may not finish his term. He has done some things in the past that angered me, but today I am proud to be his constituent.
Rockefeller is my other senator. He sure won't be getting my vote again!
