Are there any GOP candidates with kids serving in Iraq oe Afganistan?

I know of a few Republican Congressmen with sons or nephews* in (or who have been) in Iraq a/o Afganistan but are there any non incumbents with family members serving or having served as part of the operations in these countries?

*sorry but I haven't heard a thing about female family members in the service.

Came across this [Only registered and activated users can see links]

For a few in Congress, war is family concern
Having children or other relatives in harm's way gives special insight

Hang Tough~ If I come across anything refering to yopur topic - i'll lay it in.

From what I can find the total number of federal elected officials, cabinent members, and Mayors of metropolitan cities with familes members serving in the armed forces since 9/11 is about 30.

and more than half of servicemen aren't anywhere near Iraq or Afganistan.

They do not call them "Fortunate Sons and Daughters" for nothing. Same ol' thing, nothing ever changes. Thirty is not many since 9/11 and like you say - cushy areas and jobs. Would not think otherwise CD.

This pisses me off: Joining the military is like accepting a job.

This is complete bullshit. To be sure there are some people where that is the case. But when you are in the middle of nowhere it better be a calling.

I remember a fellow vet who was with the unit in Alaska. It was in the middle of winter and he was hacking (with an axe) a machine gun fighting position.

After about 7 hours of hacking away at the permafrost, he sat down and was smoking a joint (pre-no tolerance of drugs). His CO caught him and chewed him out. His response was this: all I know is that I spent 7 hours hacking away at permafrost for a position that only guards trees. What drove that guy in the Army was a sense of duty and not merely a paycheck.

I am not sure I am expressing this right, I do not believe that our troops are a bunch of mercenaries. Insinuating that they are, degrades and trivializes their service.

I hear ya' Bro', correct me if I'm wrong here, which I know you will.

What your saying is Support The Troops like the rest of these Made in China Yellow Ribbon instant patriots MoFo's that are afraid to express anything else.

My feelings, you want to support them, get them the hell home now Bro'.

What sense of duty is fightin', killin', gettin' greased, wounded, head messed up, broken families, money problems etc. etc. over "SHRUB" lies?

Keeping them there is degrading and trivilizing their service?

Don't buy it Bro' - if that is degrading and trivilizing their service - which one you think they want more - death, buddys death, wound, head messed up for lies in a no winner or getting the hell out of where the frig we do not belong !

Bro' thats my honest oppinion on the subject, no punch pullin' or BS.

Sayin' you Support the Troops do them no damn good but extend this fiasco. Support them all you want with the treatment, benefits, jobs, homes, counciling, etc. etc they earned and deserve- when they are back here where they belong. That there is real Support.
