Talks between Northwest Airlines and its ground workers union failed to produce a tentative agreement this week, so management plans to ask a bankruptcy judge Monday to void the existing contract for 5,600 employees.

"The company does not want to move off of their original proposal enough that we could bring something out and recommend it," Bobby DePace, a union official, said Friday.

Equipment service employees, who handle bags and de-ice aircraft, among other duties, and stock clerks rejected a contract offer in March that would have cut their pay by 11.5 percent. Customer service agents and reservation employees are among a group of 7,700 Northwest employees that ratified the deal on a two-thirds vote. All of the workers are represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM).

The equipment service and stock employees "should not be entitled to seek a better deal or a higher payout by virtue of being the holdout unit," Northwest management said in a filing with the court.

Would it be too much to ask for a labor friendly judge?

I clicked wondering what possible thing could N.W.A have to do with "ground workers" and what could make the band name still involved as a legal entity. Now I know, I am not awake yet.
