I just finished reading The DaVinci Code. I was wondering if it is fiction or does it have elements of truth in it?
Yes it is based on fact.
Although, having read several books on Leonardo, I never came across anything about him involved with any Masonic type group.
Because of his illegitimate birth though he couldn't be hired to work with his fellow artists when Julius II was renovating the Vatican.
But the Pope did have disputes with alot of groups and held considerable political power.
And all the Knight Templar stuff is pretty right on.
But the Last Supper is not about Jesus and Magdalene.

How about Mary Magdelene being the holy grail? That one sounds a litte far fetched.

Having also read the book, I guess that all depends on how you interpret what it means.
It all fits with the idea of the last supper with drinking the blood of the lamb and the cup that collects that blood.

The DaVinci Code is a good read. There was a book called "Holy Blood, Holy Grail." The authors of that book sued Brown claiming he ripped off his ideas for The Code from them.
I think a lot of Dan Brown's ideas and references come from the Gnostic Books. The text of the Gnostic works have never been included in the Bible because they are at odds with the majority view. All I know is that at the Conference of Nicea(sic?) all the different sects came and the Copts, the oldest sect of Christians walked out of the conference. To this day the Copts(the sect is in Egypt) uses a completely different Bible than any other sect.
Personally I rely on "Conversations With God" by Neale Donald Walsch. Certainly much more enlightening than going to Church and much easier on the mind.
A lot of the Art History (Symbolism/Meaning) was what I had learned in University Art History classes 100 years ago... As I say, it was a long time ago and I could be wrong about some of the small details... but it seemed very accurate when I was reading it. I really enjoyed the refresher course.
As far as Mary being the "Grail"... it's a theory. It's been around for a while... I'm pretty sure "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" had that in it.
The conference of Nicea was indeed a sham. A giant power grab!
