Biden says GOP opposition to jobs bill 'baffling'
Marisa Schultz/ The Detroit News
Flint— A day after the Senate blocked President Barack Obama's jobs plan, Vice President Joe Biden pledged to Flint public safety officers he'll "fight like crazy" to ensure they have the proper resources.
Speaking at the Flint Fire Department, Biden drummed up support for the $447 billion American Jobs Act that has failed to gain GOP support.
He chided Republicans for rejecting the jobs bill he says embodies only proposals that have garnered GOP support in the past. "It's baffling," Biden said of the Senate defeat. On Tuesday, the legislation failed to gain the 60 votes necessary to avoid a filibuster. Republicans have panned the plan as a second version of failed stimulus spending and rejected new taxes on millionaires to pay for the program.
Biden and the president have said they'll appeal directly to the people to continue to rally public support and to press Congress to get legislation passed.
"We are going to come back and back and back" to Congress, Biden said
