February 23, 2007 To all APCI members CONTACTS – CONTACTS – CONTACTS H.R. 971 – “The Community Pharmacy Fairness Act has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives. H.R. 971 would change antitrust law to give independent pharmacies more leverage when we negotiate reimbursement rates with insurance companies, Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) and Medicare Part D plans. We need your help in securing as many co-sponsors as possible for H.R. 971. CONTACTS are needed NOW to your Member of Congress to ask them to co-sponsor H.R. 971. If you do not know who your Member of Congress is please go to [Only registered and activated users can see links] and there is a place to input your zip code which will give you your Member of Congress. Find their telephone number, e-mail address or fax number to make your CONTACT. It is imperative that you make the CONTACT regarding their becoming a co-sponsor. As of today there are currently 12 co-sponsors, which 10 are from APCI states. H.R. 971 will not cost the government a penny, but it would allow community pharmacies to get a better deal for their patients by entering into negotiations with the PBMs instead of being presented with take-it-or-leave-it contracts.
