It doesn't matter that 60% of Americans want a comprehensive health care reform bill. What matters is the Senate rule requiring 60 votes to end debate that allows one, two, three Senators to stop a bill that is favored by 51 to 59 other Senators.
Phone calls to Senators don't matter either - the Senators may be for a robust HCR bill but are powerless because of the cloture rule in the Senate.
And it doesn't matter what TV and Radio show hosts believe - they are as incapable to pass legislation in the Senate as the 51 to 59 Senators are.
The Senate cloture rule sucks, but there must be 67 votes to change the rule. Even such a rule change would be filibustered.
Meaningful HCR has been screwed! Insurance companies have won - they are bristling with huge smiles - just like Aetna Joe!
I am depressed!
